Family Circle is an integral part of the recovery process at Recovery Ways. This program provides education, connection, and practical tools to help families understand addiction and mental health challenges while learning how to support their loved one’s treatment journey. Family members and close loved ones are invited to enter a therapeutic environment where they’ll learn to recognize and discuss difficult issues, provide effective support, acknowledge unhealthy lifestyle habits, and heal together as a family. Family Circle is often life-changing because it gives participants a safe space to mend relationships and better understand each other.

Why Family Circle?

We chose the name Family Circle because a circle represents connection, equality, and safety. In a circle, everyone has a place and no one is left outside. This reflects our belief that healing happens together, when families join with their loved ones and with one another in a supportive, ongoing community. When an individual experiences mental health challenges or struggles with addiction, the impact is felt far beyond that person. Families and close friends often carry their own pain, confusion, and unanswered questions. Our program is built on the belief that healing is a shared process.

What Can You Expect in Family Circle?

Family Circle is a two-day, in-person program designed to help families, significant others, and close friends heal alongside their loved ones. Clients enrolled in treatment at Recovery Ways can invite up to two participants over the age of 16. Through a blend of workshops, therapy, and shared experiences, participants gain insight, tools, and support for the journey ahead. Each session is carefully structured to create connection and growth, while keeping the patient’s treatment plan central.

During Family Circle you’ll take part in:

  • Family Systems & Family Sculpting – Understanding relationship patterns and how they affect recovery.
  • Recreational Therapy – Strengthening bonds and communication through engaging, hands-on activities.
  • Occupational Therapy – Learning practical skills for healthier routines and coping strategies.
  • Attachment & Co-Dependency Work – Exploring the attachment styles that shape family roles and relationships.
  • DBT Skills – Building tools for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and healthier interactions.
  • Family Process Groups – Sharing experiences and building community with other families on the same path.
  • Sound Healing – Experiencing restorative practices that support stress relief and emotional balance.

Family Circle is about more than just giving participants information. It’s about healing together, learning new ways of relating, and reinforcing that recovery is a journey best shared together.

Supporting Your Loved One Can Make All the Difference

Supporting a loved one through recovery is one of the most powerful ways to promote lasting healing. Addiction and mental health challenges often affect the entire family, creating strain, confusion, and distance. When you step into the process with your loved one, you not only show them that they aren’t alone, but you also help create a healthier environment for growth and stability. By learning how to encourage without enabling, set boundaries, and care for your own well-being, you become an essential partner in recovery. Together, families and individuals can rebuild trust, deepen connections, and lay the foundation for long-term success.

How Can I Prepare for Family Circle?

To make the most of your Family Circle experience, we encourage you to come with an open mind and a willingness to engage. Be ready to listen, participate, and ask questions – your involvement helps create a supportive space for everyone. Before attending, please complete the questionnaire provided by the Recovery Ways team so we can tailor the program to your family’s needs.

We also recommend attending a community support group such as Al-Anon, NAMI Family, CODA, or Nar-Anon to begin connecting with others who understand the challenges of loving someone in recovery. Finally, we ask all participants to abstain from alcohol or substances for at least 48 hours prior to attending to ensure the safety and integrity of the program.
